PHILIPPINES

ABACA CRATER - handmade from 100% abaca; very rough, broadly textured on one side, smooth on the other. White or Buff with 4 deckles.

ABACA with SPAKLES - handmade from 100% abaca. White with a subtle, fine dusting of mica particles. 4 deckles; neutral pH.

ABACA SAFF FLOWERS - handmade from 100% abaca. Off-White sheet with inclusions of small red-orange saffron flowers. 4 deckles; neutral pH.

BANANA BARK - handmade from 100% recycled banana bark. 4 deckles; roughly textured.

PINA LATBANG - handmade of bast fiber from the jackfruit tree. White, laid with lightly textured surface. 4 deckles; neutral pH

LEAVES & STRINGS - handmade from 100% abaca. Natural tan embedded with threads and skeletal leaves. 4 deckles.

LUPA WITH ABACA STRINGS - handmade of lupa fiber. Dark natural brown background with abaca strings embedded every few inches parallel to the short dimensions. Very rough, stucco-like texture; 4 deckles.

PINA WITH ABACA/AKBAB - handmade from bast fiber of the jack fruit tree, abaca and akbab. White with fine inclusions of brown fiber. 4 deckles; neutral pH.

Papermaking in the Philippines

The Philippines has no verifiable historical data on handmade paper making. But it is believed that the craft existed as early as the Hispanic period. Today, handmade paper makers and converters can be found all over the country. Among the provinces where the craft is gaining adherents are: Laguna, Quezon, Baguio, Ifugao, Bicol, Pampanga, Iloilo, Aklan, Negros, Leyte, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Metro Manila
